Woman Evades Police Following High-Speed Pursuit from Southern California into Mexican Territory
A female individual previously residing at a female recovery facility in the state of California reportedly stole a minivan and engaged in a prolonged law enforcement pursuit ending with her traveling across the international boundary into the nation of Mexico on Monday.
Auto Theft Reported from Sober Living Home
According to a police announcement, a second woman, the owner of the vehicle, 45, notified authorities that her 2004 gray Toyota Sienna was stolen, along with her car key. The owner, who operates two women’s sober living homes, identified the alleged thief as one of the residents at Diana’s House Sober Living, situated approximately an hour’s drive of Los Angeles.
“My keys were stolen out of my house manager’s purse. I arrived right when it was occurring,” she said, noting that the minivan is designated for the sobriety home’s tasks.
High-Speed Pursuit Unfolds Across Several Regions
Authorities located the stolen vehicle about 12 miles to the north in Simi Valley, where they tried to initiate a traffic stop, but the suspect did not comply and accelerated rapidly. She reached speeds of about 90mph on the State Route 118 until the pursuit continued into LA County. At that juncture, local sheriff’s deputies transferred the operation to the California highway patrol once Wilson merged onto the Interstate 405 heading south.
“This incident is particularly unusual in the sense of the traffic conditions enabling drivers to persist on the highway and extend this chase,” commented a public information officer from the local law enforcement agency.
The suspect reportedly dodged all the tire-deflation devices tossed on the road by authorities, as seen in footage from above.
Cross-Border Escape and Aftermath
The pursuit eventually reached the US-Mexico border by 1.30pm, leading to the highway patrol to terminate the chase due to jurisdictional constraints.
Walters stated on Tuesday that the vehicle was located in Tijuana, Mexico and that she was coordinating with the authorities to recover the vehicle.
“At the end of the day, I’m not worried about the car,” she remarked. “I’m relieved knowing she was not injured. The car is replaceable.”
Owner’s Perspective
The sober living home owner, who has run Diana’s House Sober Living since October 2024, acknowledges that the path to recovery from substance abuse and trauma is not always linear.
“This is a psychological and substance abuse crisis,” she said. “There is a need for more support. It is essential to provide more resources for those that are facing challenges.”
“Recovery isn’t always pretty,” she added.
